The goal of this institute is to enhance your knowledge of effective instructional practices that promote early reading success. Participants will examine researched-based practices for teaching all students to read, including English Language Learners.Explore diagnostic and prescriptive instruction that works.  A knowledge of reading development will be enhanced with helpful reading strategies.  Participants will receive a comprehensive notebook with valuable resources. 

Upon receipt of registration the NWRESA will contact your LEA finance office regarding any potential stipend.

Description:

This session developed specifically for North Carolina teachers, focuses on the use of informational text to teach not only reading and reading comprehension, but to also use the text to meet other content area standards.  Teachers will learn to identify the patterns and features of text, increase text complexity, use EOG assessments and Lexile levels to gauge reading complexity, gauge student achievement, evaluate existing programs, and practice strategies to take back to the classroom.  The Common Core and North Carolina State Standards provide the framework for this course.  To wrap up learning, teachers will create an integrated lesson, apply it to classroom practice and report on the delivery.  Best Practices and successful lesson plans that meet specific rubric criteria will be shared through the Accountability and Curriculum Reform Effort (ACRE) website.

NC Principals’ Evaluation Instrument and Process Training

This two-day session is for newly appointed principals, superintendents and/or principal evaluators. This training will review the seven standards and the evaluation process of the North Carolina Executive Evaluation for principals.  This training is not for assistant principals.
