Dee Hanlin, Math Consultant, NWRESA

Date/Time:

Tuesday, December 7, 2010 (9:00-3:00)

Audience:

Anyone Interested

Description:

No Sewing required but there is some measurement! Come learn to make folded star ornaments from fabrics. We will be using 3” Styrofoam balls and 2 ˝ inch fabric squares (10 for the center star, 16 squares for each of the other 3 layers.  If you pre-cut some fabric before you come, you should be able to finish several balls during the workshop. We will discuss how to vary the center stars. They can be made from your school colors or any combination you like. I used to give these as teacher gifts when my sons were in school. Inexpensive gifts made just in time for the holidays!  Easy enough for students to do.

In conjunction with this workshop we would like to do an activities exchange. Bring a copy of your favorite activity or technique, we’ll make the copies and share with the group. Be sure to include your name and contact information in case others have questions later.

 Materials to bring:

  • ·         Several 3 inch Styrofoam balls
    ·
300+ flat head pins, silk pins work well
    ·
4 Fat quarters in  coordinating but contrasting colors, see pictures
    ·
One yard pieces of various ribbons to match
    ·
Hot glue gun if you have one
    ·
