On May 24, 2007, Dr. Joe Sinclair challenged students, staff and
community patrons at Glade Creek Elementary School to participate in the
Age 6 to 96 Fitness Challenge. This was held as part of the
school/community end-of-year health fair at the new school track.
Health agencies and various businesses from Alleghany County and
surrounding areas participated in the event.
Sinclair pledged five hundred dollars from the Healthy Schools Grant
to the school for his first twenty-five minutes of continuous running.
Principal Gary West and three faculty members joined him at the start of
the running challenge. After continuously running for 8.5 miles,
his activities were stopped to allow for the recognition ceremonies
conducted by Mr. West. The total amount of money raised from the
fitness challenge exceed $2,000. The second Age 6 to 96 Fitness
Challenge once again proved to be very successful! |
"Dr. Sinclair ran
8.5 miles without slowing down or breaking, allowing him to raise
$2,025. for health and physical education equipment, and funds to help
pay for construction costs on the new walking track. What an
inspiration for Glade Creek School students, staff and community
members!"
